Project with Pele Association Expanded Parliament programme Adega, Azevedo, Porto Can a cup of soup alone contain ingredients from a garden, a prairie, a domestic field, an orchard and a forest? or a year, seasons passed as we studied the visible and invisible relationships between things, alive or not. Earthborn Agencies was a year-long art and science community project developed within the Expanded Parliament programme, by Pele Association. This was in Adega, a converted old wine making lodge; a place for participation, conviviality, and action, where alternative models of production, networking, and training are discussed and tested. |
We created narratives on how species interact with each other, including ourselves, in the very middle. From a technical, ethical and poetic stance, we learned how to constructively provoke our position.
In a final presentation to the community, we prepared a performance with food in seven acts. Each act focused a specific plot of land in the territory, with its own specific characteristics, that we spent a year observing, interacting with and intervening in, understanding the types of human and non-human networks present and how we could bring complexity and diversity to the system in each one of them. The food came from those plots and helped illustrate the relationships we delved into. During the performance, a huge diagram was drawn on the ground with plenty of philosophical and etymological notes, accompanied by a sound piece with field recordings, interviews and a narrated account on each plot. |
