knowing the land
in direct relationship to local ecosystems, we will document, learn and propagate ancestral arts and crafts
In direct relationship to our local ecosystems, we will document, learn and share ancestral arts and crafts.
To profoundly know the source and utility of materials such as wicker, wool, wood and stone, helps us develop a productive, sustainable and resilient culture. For two years, we will invite local artisans, keepers of most valuable knowledge, to teach us some of the basic practices of recognising and working with natural materials, so abundant in this bioregion. In creative workshops at Landra, participants will be able to further develop such rudimentary first steps towards a communal creation, which will be shown at Casa da Cultura in Cabeceiras de Basto. There will also be a communal lunch during the São Miguel Festivities, in September 2025. Knowing the Land is supported by Dgartes' Art and Territorial Cohesion program, Cabeceiras de Basto Townhall, and the partners Parish of Riodouro and project Tramas by Teque Artes. |
We will begin with Mr. Joaquim Pereira, who will teach us how to make wicker baskets and other flexible forms with the stems of trees in the Salix genus (several kinds of willows)
On the 30 and 31st of August, last Friday and Saturday of the month, we will be from 10am to 6pm in Mr. Joaquim's workshop, in Outeiro, Cabeceiras de Basto. On the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of September, the creative process continues at Landra, Riodouro, also in Cabeceiras. The workshop is free and bookable via the email: [email protected] Artistic Direction and Production: Landra (Sara Rodrigues e Rodrigo Camacho) / Audiovisuals: João Ferreira / Sound and Production Assistance: Beatriz Rola / Photography: Magda Pereira / Design: Paulo Mariz @saber.a.terra |
